The gang's confidence was shattered when they realized the deception after P.T. Flea blew their cover and the fake bird caught fire. In the ensuing chaos, Hopper publicly beat Flik and proclaimed ants were lowly life forms meant to serve them. However, this speech inspired the ants and Circus Bugs to fight back, driving all but Hopper and his brother Molt away. The gang's end came when they shoved Hopper into a cannon, only for him to escape during rain and abduct Flik before being fed to real bird chicks.
