In an attempt to prove his scariness, he broke into the door lab alone to try to scare, and Sulley followed to stop him. Dean Hardscrabble expelled them immediately after the incident with no positive send-off. They later started in the Monsters, Inc. mailroom together; Sulley became a scarer while Mike became his assistant and coach, not remaining in the mailroom.
